We are building a simple v0.1 of BetterFriend app by using WhatsApp Chatbot to remind people their loved one’s birthday with AI.

We have limited attention span on a daily basis. A lot is being taken away by social media and passive consumption of content online. Removing it completely is impossible with smartphones and internet being part of our daily lives, but becoming more intentional is absolutely necessary for any creative professional.
As I learn about the art of writing from anywhere that I can find, I began to also notice content for building with AI. More and more Instagram and Youtube accounts are served to me about AI every day. Many are ahead of me by 1-2 years but not that much ahead. These newest AI models that only came out in the last 2-3 months far exceeding what they could have done 6-12 months prior. NO ONE is truly ahead at the time of this writing in terms of technology, they are simply ahead in terms of systems, process and distribution.
As I search for others that both write and build in AI, Every.to stood out to me when I heard that their engineers no longer code - they just review what AI’s have done.
They are an AI newsletter company that builds small software that is included in the subscription people pay for the newsletter. Super cool concept that can really only be done in the AI era, a definition of an AI built business.
The founder, Dan, shared a lot more in this episode on Lenny’s podcast:
Some of the notes I took was:
About 5 AI agent per engineering manager all using Claude 4 to code
They don’t think that a non-technical person can manage AI agent developers for a LONG time. No plans to have a non-technical product manager.
They have 2 people building the entire product. They are building 2-3 products at once.
They write a daily AI newsletter called Vibe Check that talks about how newly released AI tool is able to integrate into daily life smoothly or not. Since they are building software with all the latest AI tools, they are very well qualified to share their view on different tools and their helpfulness - for example the latest Grok 4 update beats all the AI scores but for day to day use it’s slow and an overkill.
An actual position called Head of AI Operations that records repetitive tasks from all the team members, and her job is to implement AI automation for the most impactful areas in the company.
The CEO tries very hard not to repeat what he says and use AI to accomplish that. Basically creating an AI version of himself that can answer questions or give feedback for those who want guidance as the first round - this saves the back and forth, or at least reduce them.
Claude 4 Opus is the only model that they claim to be able to predict the performance of the engagement for a writing - tweets / newsletter. With the right prompt of course. And likely based on their own metrics and internal data testing. They have an audience of 100K readers mostly in the US, and have great audience on social as well. They are using Claude 4 to build their AI writing tool.
They raised a Sip Seed - a fascinating new concept that they invented where they can draw the investment up to $2M at a predetermined valuation if they need it. But they also don’t have to if they don’t need it. Of course if they were to raise more money, it gets automatically converted so the investors get the benefit of lower valuation. This is interesting because it gives them the freedom to either grow profitably or raise multiple venture funding rounds. It gives them both the safety net, and flexibility and control. AI is changing VC rounds.
I’ve been quite hesitant to use Claude 4 Opus or any AI tool to help me write solely because I want to get better at it, on my own. I was afraid, and still am, that AI will influence or over take my writing voice. My unique style. Before it gets mature as an adult, it gets eaten alive by all the imitations of the greatest writers, through this magical black hole of prompts and chatbox.
At the same time, I know I will at one point need to find a way to use it. Every.to is using it in combination with ghost writers. They may soon be able to use it to write their newsletter when it can predict what’s good writing versus bad.
I am definitely getting FOMO, but I also know the importance of the learning the fundamentals.
For now, I will keep writing until Day 38. I’m excited to throw all my writings into Claude 4 opus to discuss my style, how I can potentially improve, and maybe have it imitate my voice. I will share more on this for my project #2.
The hardest part of the journey is to continue the path without losing sight of the future or attempt to take shortcuts.
Life motto from Dan - Founder of Every.to:
“Do things worth writing about, Write things worth reading.”
